Game 1 - A beautiful pitchers' duel occurred through the first 7 innings. Detroit's Anibal Sanchez and Boston's Jon Lester both allowed only 4 hits through 6 and 7 innings respectively. Junichi Tazawa took over for Lester in the 8th and became the goat of game 1 by allowing 2 runs in the 8th inning and a single shot homer to
Johnny Peralta in the 9th. The Red Sox attempted to mount a comeback in the bottom of the 9th, but the Tiger bullpen shut them down before enough damage could be done.
